A well thought out security policy

A well thought out security policy

The impact and complexity of digital threats is increasing. The Kaseya supply chain attack is a good example of how sophisticated attacks nowadays are. It underlines the importance of a integrated and well thought out security policy, where we collaborate, share knowledge and are critical about both the internal and external organization. Read more about our approach and how we could work together on this.

An important part of a security policy, in addition to using best practices and standards, is not to blindly trust your suppliers, even if they are reputable. It is important to ask questions, request documents and assess the risks with all of the suppliers, large and small.

A good example are the recent PrintNightmare vulnerabilities we informed you about. Over the weekend, immediately after the announcement, we performed a technical analysis on the vulnerability in order to gain insight into the risk, the impact for our customers and the attack vectors. Based on the technical analysis, we determined the next steps. This structured approach is a permanent part of our way of working and culture: always perform an analysis first, involve all relevant stakeholders and only then determine the next steps. This way, we can make sure we have a well-considered approach to the vulnerabilities and possible risks, whereby the confidentiality of your data is key.

Of course, this is not only up to us, but it is a joint effort. We can learn from each other, join forces and discuss how we can work together on this. Security, privacy and compliance is a broader issue, which we are already discussing with various business partners and would also like to discuss with you. We do not have a monopoly on wisdom and would also like to hear your insights in order to develop an integrated security policy.

A new Disaster Recovery solution for Agrifirm

A new Disaster Recovery solution for Agrifirm

We believe in true teamwork and are therefore always pleased and proud when successful partnerships are extended, such as the partnership with Agrifirm. In addition to continuity and trust, this is an important sign that the partnership is developing. An important aspect in extending a partnership is reassessing the business requirements. It is essential to have the courage to have a fresh look at the requirements that are important for being and remaining successful.

For Agrifirm, the business continuity of their SAP S4/HANA environment is an important requirement. We therefore held several sessions with all partners at all levels in order to design a new Disaster Recovery (DR) solution.

The solution is a capacity expansion of the DR environment, based on the latest Power technology and managed by Databalance. By discussing all the wishes, requirements and options openly and with all the partners involved, we created the best solution. For now and for the future. We like to thank Agrifirm for their trust and look forward to further expanding the successful and good partnership.

Enhancements & developments: Power9 and firewalls in use

Enhancements & developments: Power9 and firewalls in use

In order to continuously improve and optimize our platforms and services, we have upgraded our Power platform to Power9 in June. The new architecture of Power9 provides significantly better performance. In addition, with Power9, new hardware security functionalities have become available and the (energy) efficiency has increased. This assures that our customers make use of the latest proven technology and the highest reliability of our Power platform.

In June the new Fortinet firewalls have also been taken into use with the conversion of the VPN connections. These nextgen firewalls allow us to add intrusion prevention and detection functionality to our entire network, allowing us to better detect and mitigate complex and advanced attack attempts.

With the new firewalls and Power9 upgrade our environment – and, of course, yours – is in line with the latest standards and provides ongoing assurance of the stability, flexibility and continuity you expect from us.

Investing in talent

Investing in talent

Here at Databalance, we often say that team, people and culture are key. Our commitment to that principle is reflected in the personal development that our people achieve, and in our ability to attract both upcoming and established talent. For example, following a successful internship, Leroy van der Steenhoven will be staying with us to do the final study project for his degree. We like to surround ourselves with bright young minds that can offer fresh perspectives. So we’re thrilled that Leroy will be looking for ways to further enhance our security processes, architecture and tooling.

We’re also delighted to have added Sebastiaan Bakker to the team. Sebastiaan is an expert in Security & Compliance with extensive experience of both the auditing dimensions and the technical and practical aspects of risk management. With the growing importance and public profile of security, privacy and compliance, it’s good to know that we have both the emerging talents and the experienced professionals to keep raising the bar for ourselves and our customers in this key field.

New storage and firewalls

New storage and firewalls

We are constantly investing in our infrastructure to ensure the continuity and flexibility of our services and cloud platforms. Earlier this year, for example, we significantly extended our storage, and we plan to replace a number of firewalls this quarter. With a view to minimising downtime, maximising deployment predictability and ensuring satisfaction of all quality requirements, such projects are strictly monitored.

The new storage and firewalls bring our environment – and, of course, yours – into line with the latest standards and provide ongoing assurance of the stability, flexibility and continuity you expect from us.
